Differential diagnosis
Young doctors may find it difficult to distinguish the various systolic elements of MVP from other systolic murmurs. However, with experience it is relatively easy to recognize these various sounds. One of the cardinal findings with MVP clicks is that they will vary with exertion. Have the patient do squatting maneuvers and if there are markedly changes in the clicks this is one indicator of MVP.
